Mastery of good spelling skills requires more than short term memory of words. Learning to observe and analyze word patterns is essential to successful spelling. The BJU Press program is designed to have a positive effect on students’ daily writing. The 5-day instruction cycle promotes understanding of the structures of words. It incorporates meanings and usage of words, as well as bases, affixes, and roots. It teaches students to apply this learning to decoding and encoding unfamiliar words. Above all, the program enables teachers to provide opportunities for students to glorify God and show love to others using accurate spelling in written communication.
